Accessibility standards on the Roshni website.
Every effort has been made to make this site as accessible as possible for all visitors. We have followed WAI guidelines on accessibility, and most pages comply with WAI level AA.
A few pages do not meet the AA standard, where images have been used to translate content text into another language. Where this is the case, we have done our best to make content as accessible as possible. Please contact Roshni if you wish to receive a text based version of this translation.
If you have any problems, suggestions or feedback please contact us.
Standards compliance
- All pages, except Urdu information, Punjabi information, Hindi information, Gujarati information, Bengali information are Bobby AA approved, complying with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. However, this is always a judgment call; many accessibility features can be measured, but many can not. We have reviewed all the guidelines and believe that all these pages are in compliance.
- The Urdu information, Punjabi information, Hindi information, Gujarati information and Bengali information pages comply with priority 1 of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- All pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict.
Links
- Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).
- Wherever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
- Link text is never duplicated; two links with the same link text always point to the same address.
- There are no " java script:" pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.
- There are no links that open new windows without warning.
Images
- All content images used in the home page and all archives include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
Visual design
- This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. You may change the font size of this document via the preference-settings of your browser. Additionally, all modern browsers (with the exception of Internet Explorer for Windows) allow resizing of text via the keyboard using CTRL (for Macintosh) and the '+' or '-' keys.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
Colours
- This site's font and background colour combinations have been checked against the different colour blindness conditions and ensured that all information is still clear.
Access Keys
- We have not included access keys within this website. While it seems that access keys are a great idea in principle, research has shown that implementing access keys brings the possibility that either they will not be available to all users, or that the keystroke combination encoded within the web page may conflict with a reserved keystroke combination in an adaptive technology or future user agent.
