What is domestic violence?
Domestic Violence (DV) is the physical, emotional, sexual or mental abuse of one person (usually a women) by another, with whom they have an intimate relationship.
DV can also occur by other members of the family including parents, older brothers, mother - in - law, father - in - law, brother or sister - in - laws. Forced marriage is another form of abuse.
Statistics
- 1 in 4 women experience D.V at some part of their lives.
- 2 women are killed every week by their partner or ex-partner.
- Every minute in the UK, the police receive a call from the public for assistance for DV.
- Over the last 5 years Roshni supported 1,198 women and children at the refuge.
General Advice
If you are thinking of leaving an abusive relationship, you may want to consider moving to a different part of your hometown or move to another part of the country.

- Passport, visa and related documents
- NI number
- Benefit books, bankbooks and other forms
- Clothes for yourself and the children's identification
- Toiletries
- Useful telephone numbers
- Photographs
- Money
- Yours and your children's birth certificate and medical cards
